Heinola “Reading Lamps”

February 14th, 2008 FunForever

This public lighting project was presented at the Light Now conference in Stockholm this week by Vesa Hankonen. The project involves installing “Reading Lamps” in Library Square in the town of Heinola in Finland. Usually street lights are placed evenly and the fixtures tend to be hidden giving the main role to place. A person in the Library Square will find himself surrounded by 15 strange creatures casting light upon him. I like that they chose black for the project. It emphasizes the strange shapes of the lamps even more.
