BedUp is a good, practical way to free some space in your home. When you need the bed - just lower it from the ceiling and when you don’t you can return it to the ceiling. BadUp is easy to use, I mean getting it up and down, there’s only one button. You can stop the bed at any level. There are also lamps in the bottom of the bed so when you are not using it it becomes a ceiling with lamps. BedUp costs from $4,300 not the cheapest bed in the word but definitely the most practical.

Nendo has designed a new chair made of waste paper from the pleated fabric industry. The paper is wrapped into a cylinder and cut vertically half way so you can peel it one layer at a time. The chair was designed for the XXIst Century Man exhibition which will be at 21_21 Design Sight in Tokyo from 30 March to 6 July 2008. To make the paper more durable resins were added during production. They also give paper the ability to remember forms, and the pleats themselves give the chair elasticity and a springy resilience, giving the seater a comfortable experience. The production is so simple it may not be long till we are able to buy it.

The world’s tallest snowman or actually a snowwoman was made in Bethel, Maine. The 122 ft snowman with eyelashes made from skis and painted red tires for her lips and trees for arms has been named after the state’s senior Senator Olympia Snowe. It’s worth mentioning that the previous record of the world’s tallest snowman was also set by Bethel 9 years ago. I personally have no idea what they used for the carrot and where they got that giant hat but it doesn’t really matter. The snowman..woman looks great.

It’s hard to believe that these sculptures are actually cakes. Well, they are cakes and by looking at them a suddenly have a craving for cake right now. The cakes were made by Zhanna Zubova and all the writing is in Russian so I have no idea what is written there. It’s most probably everything we write on cakes - “Happy birthday”, Happy Anniversary” and so on. My favorite is the one in the form of a piece of bread with caviar on top.

Rucksack House is a great new way to expand your living space. Now you can ad an entire room to your apartment. The box is a welded steel cage covered with plywood which is suspended from steel cables anchored to the roof or the facade of the building. Sections of the walls unfold, with the help of hidden magnets, into a desk, shelves, and a platform for reading or sleeping. It’s an easy and simple way to get more space for your flat. But there are bound to be some issues with the neighbors. Like say the box might be blocking the sunlight of the people living right beneath you. But all neighbor issues aside I’m sure Rucksack House is a great way to improve our apartment living conditions.

Sky Tran is a concept of individual maglev system developed by UniModal Transport Solutions. The system operates single, two-seater vehicles. Many departure and exit portals are placed every 400 meters or at every city block. These no timetables or fixed routes. A person needs to enter any departure portal and wait for an empty vehicle and then select the desired destination. These small vehicles can reach speeds up to 160mph and have a very short braking distance, thus they have a very short distance between each other, only 25 meters. Can you imagine no more traffic jams it’ll be like a dream come true.

Korean Heerim Architects has tried to reinvent the skyscraper with their two projects in central Asian republic of Azerbaijan. The two skyscrapers will be built in Baku, capital of Azerbaijan with a view on the Caspian sea . One building is called Full Moon Bay the other is Crescent and Caspian Plus. The two are going to be built on both side of the bay, acting as gateway markers. So far the pictures look fantastic and I really like the gateway markers idea.
