Martin Houses To-Go has released their new 2008 model called Fresh Start. Julie Martin lost everything in hurricane Katrina but gained a vision on building small homes. She started a company with a goal to make small, affordable houses which can be moved around on a trailer.I like that Fresh Start has so many windows and it seems really cozy, not like those plastic and soulless caravans.
A large industrial warehouse in Mumbai was converted into a lounge with a restaurant, a bar and a live music stage. The cylindrical booths seat from 4 to 10 people and are arranged at various heights so everybody would see the stage. The sound won’t disturb the people in the neighborhood because the bumpy walls absorb it. Here are the photos of the Blue Frog. I like that the booths change color, it sets a really homey and cozy atmosphere.
Hey people check out the awesome works by Tom Spina. Aren’t they just amazing? There are many figures and costumes in his collection like Jabba from Star Wars, werewolves, the headless horseman, giants spiders, creatures from ancient Greek myths and others which will make you droll all over the floor. The figures are life-sized and some are even are for sale although they aren’t cheap.
Check out the pictures and then the store if you are interested. The link is below.
Take a close look at the pictures. It seems everything is made of toys but in reality everything there is real. The author used photoshop to make everything look like it was made of toys. If you don’t believe me check the photos with lots of people in them.
Fossil is a mechanical dragonfly powered by solar energy made by James Watt. The length of the insect is 28 cm (less than 1 foot) and the wing span is 33 cm (1 foot). It’s called the Fossil because the creator of the dragonfly was thinking about a huge prehistoric dragonfly - Meganuera which had the wing span of 2 feet. I might disappoint you by saying this but the dragonfly doesn’t fly. But it does move its wings and twitch the mouth in the sunshine.
I don’t think this mouse is very comfortable to use nor what was the creator smoking when he created it but what I do know is it looks great and I’d love to see more computer parts made the same way. I bet the monitor would look very creepy. It would be awesome if the designer would make it glow in the dark.
After a lunar new year China celebrates the lantern festival. It falls on the 15th day of the first lunar month. This year the Olympic Games, which China is hosting, has been a major theme. The lantern festival is a very colorful event which bring people from all over the country. Here are photos of the lantern festival.
Here are photos of the Ice Hotel in Jukkasjärvi, Sweden. The entire building is made of ice and snow and includes a church and an ice bar. Such hotels are made in Sweden every year using water from Torne River. Although everything inside is from ice, visitors will sit on fur in order not to freeze their… behinds. But if you get cold don’t expect to find a fireplace or a heater.
You have to admit the idea is really nice and original but seeing these stuffed animals with mechanical parts really creep me out, especially the ferret. It looks like he’s going to get you and those white eyes really scary. I guess the next step will be a human model with mechanical parts. Now this I would very much like to see.
It’s like a trapped lightning in a block. German scientist Georg Christoph Lichtenberg first “trapped” a lightning in 18th century. To make such “lightnings” you need a clear acrylic block, a metal point, a source of static electricity and photocopier toner.
Place a sharp metal point so it touches the center of a sheet of insulating material. Lichtenberg used resin made from tree sap. Today, clear acrylic works well.
Use a Wimshurst machine a Van de Graaff generator, or vigorous shuffling on shag carpeting to build up static electricity, and then touch the metal point with the machine’s electrode to discharge it. This forms a pattern of stranded charge on the plastic, but you can’t see the it yet.
Blow photocopier toner over the surface. It will reveal the figure. Here are some wonderful lichtenberg figures.
