I’m sure many of you have old bikes rusting away in your garages. They can still be useful, you can make some very interesting furniture from them. Like this contemporary and modern furniture made from recycled bikes - steel and aluminum bicycle rims, handlebars and frames made by Bike Furniture Design. If you have an old bike you want to throw out, you can mail it to the Bike Furniture Design. I’ve posted the link below.
Now, this is not what most of us expect to see thinking about graffiti. These are made on ruins of buildings and walls. Not the best place to display graffiti works - not many admirers in these kinda places. But still, these make a good impression and the surrounding ruins help a lot.
This is Earthrace the fastest biodiesel powerboat. On March 1, 2008 it will star in Valencia, Spain on an attempt to set a new world record for a powerboat to circumnavigate the globe. The standing record was set by a team from UK, it took them 74 days, 23 hours and 53 minutes to go around the globe. Earthrace by running on exclusively 100% Biodiesel fuel, and with a net zero carbon footprint, this not-for-profit project aims to promote awareness of the environment and the sustainable use of resources.
The top speed is 40 knots or 46 mph. The boat is built from 40mm of Diab foam core, sandwiched on the inside between three layers of carbon, making it very strong and light.
Ever wanted to build your own robot? Here is a very simple robot you can build using a toothbrush, a pager motor and a battery. Instructions and a video are below.
You start by getting a toothbrush and cutting of the the head. It’ll be the platform for the robot.
Then you need a small vibrating motor, a one from a pager will do nicely. You can also use one with unbalanced output shaft.
Then the battery. You can use any 1-9 V battery, you can use an alkaline or lithium coin cell or watch battery 1.5 V or 3 V. solder short copper wire leads to the motor terminals.
You will need foam tape, apply the foam tape to your toothbrush platform, it’ll hold the motor in place.
Attach the motor to the tape. Be sure to leave some space to stick the battery.
Put the battery between the copper wires and it’s done.
TranslucentConcrete is a new form of load-bearing, see-through concrete designed by Andreas Bittis. Basically it’s a combinations of fine concrete and optical fibers. TranslucentConcrete blocks of a structure can be several feet thick but you won’t even feel it because the optical fibers work without the loss of light for up till 60 feet. TranslucentConcrete blocks can be made depending on the on structural or architects needs, from small bricks to facade plates or passable paving stones. I think we will soon see some very interesting structures and designs from this concrete. The potential of this new material is great.
A group of students from North Carolina State University are building a supercar from wood. The idea of the project called “Splinter” to explore wood as material. It’s no joke, the car has a 600 hp V8 engine and will go quite fast. The wheels are made of carefully cut and layered oak veneers strong enough to take the stress of a 2,500-pound body. The parts of the V8 are turned upside down so the exhaust vents over the top of the engine, and incorporate the muffler into the rear wing, where it can also aid downforce. This project may influence car design in the future.
Here are some graffiti photos done by Truly Design. As I have said before I’m not opposed to graffiti, I like it when people use the city as their canvas. Enjoy the graffiti guys.
Aeroscraft ML866 designed by aircraft manufacturer Aeros. Aeroscraft will be able to take of vertically and combines buoyancy and dynamic lift like. It will be ab;e to travel up to 138 mph with the range of 3125 miles. Aeroscraft can be used as a privet yacht, office and conference center, passenger or cargo transport. The remarkable thing is that with the vertical lift it doesn’t need an airport. The future of air travel looks very luxurious.
A webcam is always useful to have around you can take photos make videos and webcalls. What I find great about this webcam is the amazing design and that is also a lamp and you can adjust the light brightness. It can take 1.3 mega pixel photos and shoot 640×480 videos at 30 fps. Another great thing about it is that it’s driverless, all you have to do is plug it in and it only costs $12. Looks like streampunk is catching on becoming more available.
Most money bills have famous people on them - presidents, royalty, religion leaders or any other people lucky enough to get their face on a bill. If you don’t mind folding a bill (I know some people that do) you can make something really neat. All you need is a bill with a portrait and get folding.
